Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might seem unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, striking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then settled his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- However, their status as key figures in the influential clan could enable the team enter places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and Wicander turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This means them few options but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.
